[Commentary] 3rd Servoy World is a wrap

Another Servoy World has come and gone. A 3rd one! With this milestone I suddenly feel like Servoy has transitioned from it's wild wild west gunslinger days into an era of universal respectability. And it has all happened without me noticing. I woke up one day and now I am not hearing any doubtful comments or seeing any blank looks when Servoy is brought up in a technical conversation. I can't remember the last time I felt the need to argue Servoy's strong points. Instead, I just mention Servoy and an aura of respectability pops into existence. Sage heads nod with wise understanding, young guns hang on my every word, innocent bystanders crowd closer.

Servoy the legend has arrived.

Anyone else notice this change?

How did this happen?

My simple guess is that Servoy has gained its respectability the old fashioned way -- by kicking some serious %#!. No one is doing speed tests against Servoy, no one is comparing features against Servoy, no one is saying they are a better RAD tool than Servoy. And it's not because Servoy is new and unknown. That was a good excuse two years ago.

Instead, what I see happening is all the other RAD tools out there are expanding their capabilities as fast as possible. To the extent that I am starting to suspect that even the big boys (Adobe, IBM, Microsoft....) are emulating...and maybe copying (*cough*)...ground that Servoy has already covered.

Anyone want to argue with that?

Congratulations Servoy on your 3rd worldwide developer event. Your developers think you rock, companies that use Servoy are glad they made the investment, and your competitors know who you are and have you in their sights.

All this from nothing four years ago. Time to say...."Wow".

Cheers to all the "601's", "don't challenge me!" exclamations, beers at the bar, and another year of Servoy leading the way.
